Eight years ago when I found out I was expecting my first born and I made a promise to myself that I would only have one baby shower. So, I planned a big co-ed shower with lots of food and drinks and NO GAMES! Yup, not one single corny shower game was played.
Since, we were living in Dallas, I rented a small location in Houston that could accommodate both families and friends. Our shower theme was a bee, Babee G, to be exact. We, more like I, opted to not find out what we’d be having until birth so the yellow and brown were very fitting for a gender neutral shower. It also helped gear gender neutral gifts. The shower was a big hit and since everything was gender neutral it worked for our next baby so no shower was needed.
However, this time around it wasn’t so simple. The age gap between my youngest and this one is almost six years. I’ve given all of my baby stuff away so I am really starting all over again. But I also made a promise to myself all those years ago that I would only have one shower. I guess people could argue promises are meant to be broken but still it wasn’t sitting well for me. Yet, I need essentials like bottles, diapers, wipes. I was literally torn. I even had a sweet friend surprise me with a small shower/sprinkle at her house (shout out LG).
After weeks of going back and forth I finally decided on something. We ended up hosting a 4th of July pool/diaper “sprinkle” with a flamingo theme courtesy of my sweet niece. This was not a diaper dude party but a family friendly diaper + wipes/essentials sprinkle with some pool fun. It was really small mainly for the few people and family we know in the area. In typical fashion, there was plenty of food (burgers and dogs), drinks and no shower games! I don’t know what I have against them but they just aren’t my thing.
